The 9th annual orchid show “Natural orchids – we are clearly acting to protect orchid species” unveiled its plate on April 10, 2022. The show is an annual event to showcase the beauty of orchids and increase public awareness of biodiversity conservation at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG).

With presence of XTBG director Yang Yongping, local government officials, local Dai villagers, and related personnel, the orchid show is a platform to jointly build Menglun town into a place filled with beauty of nature, including orchids.

Integrating ecological characters, scientific research, cultural connotations, and ethnic cultures, the Orchid Show offers a feast to all visitors. It will last from April 10 to May 7.

Since 2017, XTBG has continuously donated orchid plants, including rare and endangered ones, to local Dai people. To reward the successful cultivation of orchids by local people, a contest for potted orchids by local households is held.

While sharing stunning beauty of orchids, local Dai people also join into the action of protecting biodiversity. “With joint efforts of XTBG and local villagers, orchid species will be well protected, so as to contribute to ecological civilization,” said Yang Yongping of XTBG.

This year, orchid mantis at the show becomes one of the hot spots to visitors.
