Plagiopteron suaveoleas is extremely endangered in the wild and the few extant plants are in need of protection. These days, an individual of Plagiopteron suaveoleas is blooming at the Vine Garden of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG). Plagiopteron suaveoleas is scattered in Burma, Thailand and China.
