On October 20, Yunnan provincial government held an on-the-spot meeting for Xishuangbanna tourism in Jinghong. The second-phase tourism construction of CAS Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) has been placed in the list of priority projects and will be actively supported.

At the meeting, Prof. Chen Jin, director of XTBG, introduced the main points of the second-phase construction of tourism in XTBG. Mr. Qin Guangrong, the deputy CPC Secretary and executive vice governor of Yunnan province, and Mr. Liu Ping, also vice governor, were present at the meeting. Major officials of Xishuangbanna local government attended the meeting, too.

The main construction projects for the second phase of XTBG focused on the living plant collections and elite garden (or flower garden) around the Luosuo River, new research center, aquatic garden, vine garden, ex situ conservation of rare and endangered plants, green house, facilities for tourism service, research and development of economic plants, etc.

The experts and officials present at the meeting considered XTBG very valuable and decided to take its scientific research and tourism advantages into full play. Related provincial departments and the local government are required to give policy support and good coordination to the development of XTBG. In the following three years, the provincial government will earmark some special fund as discount loan to support the Garden.
