The record of birds in Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) has reached 330, according to a release from the 12th XTBG Birding Festival from November 21-24.

This year’s bird watching festival focused on a 24-hour bird-watching competition, exhibitions of cultural creative products, and science popularization lectures. 110 birders of 24 bird-watching teams from across the country participated in a bird-watching competition, and 25 institutions conducted exhibitions of science popularization and cultural creative products.

Prof. Quan Ruichang, deputy director of XTBG, welcomed bird-watching enthusiasts from all regions to come to the garden for bird watching and touring, and provided guidance for the organization of the festival activities. He said that the 12th birding is the largest of its kind in XTBG up to now.

At the 24-hour bird watching competition, a total of 143 valid bird species were recorded, making the valid bird records in XTBG reach 330. The prize winners were the "Friends of Nature Wild Bird Association Team" from Beijing, the "Wuhan Bird Watching Team" from Hubei, and the "Endless Wings Team" from Zhejiang, with 108, 96, and 92 valid bird species respectively.

The science popularization lecture was also a highlight of this bird-watching festival. Bird experts shared “Listen ans distinguish--a practical and fun introduction to bird song recognition”, “My natural world and I--sharing experiences in natural education”, “A new attempt at natural observation--bringing writing class into nature”, and “A bird watcher’s handbook--in Zhejiang”.

Carefully prepared cultural products were available at booth display, including  popular science books, journals and magazines, clothing accessories, stickers and badges, household items, toys, clay, printmaking, and lacquer art products.

After more than a decade of development, XTBG Birding festival has become a grand event for nature enthusiasts in China.

This year, thousands of people, including students and tourists, visited the exhibition of cultural creative products at the bird-watching festival. The event was also promoted through live streaming, attracting over 5,000 online participants.
