On November 8, 2022, the opening ceremony of "The First Advanced Workshop on Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Creation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area" was held at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) of Chinese Academy of Sciences. More than 30 people attended the opening ceremony.

Mr. Gan Fanyuan, CPC secretary of XTBG, delivered a congratulatory speech at the meeting, welcoming all teachers and students of the advanced workshop to sketch in the Botanical Garden. While introducing the development process of the Botanical Garden, he said, “With the unremitting efforts of three generations of scientists, XTBG has developed into an important scientific research base for national and even global biodiversity. Meanwhile, the botanical garden has also made important achievements in science education. The establishment of the first ‘Environmental Education Centre’ has held four sessions of ‘Art Meets Science Exhibition’, which has had a great impact in the field of science and art. We are looking forward to further in-depth cooperation with teachers and students of the advanced workshop on the artistic expression of the integration of science and art. ”

Dr. Zhang Jian, instructor of the Advanced Workshop and President of Hong Kong Wenwei Painting and Calligraphy Academy, delivered a speech of appreciation and thanked Secretary Gan Fanyuan and all the guests who attended the opening ceremony. He claims that the opening of the advanced workshop has its unique historical significance, for it is in the context of the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland, the special proposal of the National 14th Five-Year Plan to "support Hong Kong in developing the center for art and cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world.”

Resident painter and student representatives also spoke at the opening ceremony. They hope the advanced workshop will be a historical promotion in terms of aesthetic thought and painting practice to the development of China’s tropical rainforest art.

After the ceremony, teachers and students of the advanced workshop listened to the lecture by associate professor He Ruihua: "Learning from Nature & Exploring the Rainforest". Dr. Zhao Jiangbo introduced "Fantastic Animals of the Tropical Rainforest".  Mo Haibo introduced "Exotic flowers of the tropical rainforest".
