Bird lovers watched 169 bird species in 16 hours at the 7th Birding Festival of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG). Among them, 10 bird species are new records, which make the records of birds at XTBG reach 284.

The 7th XTBG Birding Festival was held from November 15-18, with attendance of numerous enthusiastic birdwatchers, bird or environment protection organizations. Over 18 bird protection organizations around China are invited to participate in this significant event.

XTBG designed a series of activities, including bird-watching race, popular science exhibition, lectures, community participation, and so on.

Renowned bird researchers shared the stories of birds, raised public awareness of protecting birds and their living environments.

In addition to lectures and bird racing involving teams from all over China, from Beijing to Shenzhen to Yunnan, there were stalls operated by birding organizations, cultural creative products companies, and nature-related institutions, etc.

Students, teachers and parents from local schools participated in the educational seminars and outdoor games.

“Our goals are to expose as many as possible to the hobby of bird watching and to educate on topics of wildlife and conserve ecological wonders of the birds, especially on this picturesque island of XTBG”, said organizer of the Birding Festival.

It’s the 7th birding festival organized by XTBG. The fun-filled festival of birding provides a platform for bird lovers to see new species, improve skills, and meet new friends. Meanwhile, it increases public awareness of protecting biodiversity.
