During the Water Splashing Festival (April 12-18), an orchid exhibition named “Orchids in Nature” was held at Shade Garden of XTBG. Orchids in different shapes, sizes, designs, colors and color combinations feasted the eyes of visitors.

138 species and varieties were on display at this Orchid Exhibition, mainly from the genus of Dendrobium, Cymbidium, Calanthe, Paphiopedilum, and Vanda. The topics of the exhibition included “the relationship between orchids and human beings”, “conservation status of orchids in XTBG” and “research progress in orchids”.

There are over 20,000 different kinds of orchids, not including countless thousands of hybrid varieties. The flowers of orchids may be tiny or large. But most have some common characteristics. The sepals of an orchid form the outside of the bud before the flower opens. There also are two regular petals. The third petal is the lip. Orchids share this structure with lilies and irises.

The exhibition featured orchids mainly from Xishuangbanna. Come and enjoy the beautiful orchids. It will be a feast for your eyes.
