The pin-tailed parrot finch (Erythrura prasina) is а common species of estrildid finch found in Southeast Asia: Malaysia, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Burma, and Thailand. In December 2013, a pin-tailed parrot finch was found in Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) by an Indian Ph.D student studying here. After the 4th Bird Watching Festival, many bird-watchers kept staying in XTBG. A bird lover named WANG Qiang from Beijing observed and photographed birds of pin-tailed parrot finch in the tropical rainforest within XTBG on January 4. Thus, the first record of pin-tailed parrot finch in China was found. Description of pin-tailed parrot finch: Long tailed and multicoloured. Green back, nape and crown with blue face and breast. Red in center of lower breast and abdomen, changing to brownish yellow at flanks and undertail. The tail is bright red with black edging. The hen is considerably duller with the blue being pale and lacking the red underbelly. The tail is also considerably shorter. Pin-tailed parrot finch is inhabited forest edges and clearings and bamboo thickets and found in rice plantations.
