Giant Water Lilies (Victoria amazonica) planted in XTBG are now at their best time. The most interesting thing about this flower is the large leaves which can hold considerable weight while floating on the water.

In order to make visitors have a better understanding on this interesting plant and experience its holding capacity, XTBG launched a popular science activity named “Boating in a ling lotus”.

Participating in the activity, kids weighing less than 30 kilograms can experience sitting on a huge king lotus leaf.

Visitors have direct experience

XTBG ever launched the activity in 2009. This is the second time that visitors can have a direct experience on the king lotus. The activity will last from August 1 to 15.

Victoria amazonica is well known for its huge circular leaves, which are often pictured with a small child sitting supported in the centre as a demonstration of their size and strength. The species is highly prized as an ornamental, despite having somewhat particular requirements for successful cultivation.

When visiting XTBG, you can watch this amazing plant at the Aquatic Garden, Palm Garden, and the Main Entrance.
