Organized by Botanical Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) and The Fairchild Botanical Garden, the Fairchild Challenge/BGCI Global Competition 2011/12 aims to link plants to the Olympic Games by:
· encouraging students to research their country's plant biodiversity and represent it through the creation of an Olympic wreath
· showcasing plants from around the world at London 2012 and promoting a conservation message.
Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) is an active participant in this event. XTBG invites students in Yunnan province to research and explore their plant diversity and apply their creativity to design a wreath worthy of crowning an Olympic athlete. XTBG will help schools and students in plant selection and identification.
XTBG will organize a panel of expert to select top five wreaths and send to BGCI by Monday 23rd April 2012.
The winners of the Global Competition will be announced on BGCI's website and The Fairchild Challenge - Global web page in May 2012.
Participation is open to students from 11 to 19.
