The well-protected tropical rainforest within XTBG is home to many birds, which attracted a lot of bird watching lovers. Since 2010 XTBG organized a series of activities to raise awareness of bird and tropical rainforest conservation among the general public. A bird watching festival was held in Feburary.
The first bird watching festival of XTBG invited some green groups, local schools, birdwatching societies of Taiwan and mainland China to participate in the event.

The bird watching festival consisted of three main categories, including public participation, environmental studies, and interactive tropical forests. A series of public lectures and exhibitions with the theme related to birds was organized.
The public lectures aimed to let people understand and appreciate tropical rainforest and birds.
The grassland in front of the Museum was a funfair for the birdwatching festival. The funfair included exhibitions, game booths. Tropical forest bird badges attracted most visitors.
XTBG is a precious base of biodiversity, as well as a biological gene bank. In addition to its 11,000 plant species, there are over 100 recorded wild birds. The tropical forest within XTBG is an important habitat for birds, including some endangered species.
