During July 23 and 24, forest canopy climbing demonstrations, which was co-sponsored by the Global Canopy Programme (GCP) of British University of Oxford and Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG), were given at the headquarters of XTBG. The training course is aimed to call for public attention to forest canopy research, to spread knowledge of the importance of forest canopy in biodiversity conservation and meanwhile exchange experience in the studies on the ecology of forest canopy.

The GCP’s John Pike and XTBG’s Yang Xiaodong gave climbing demonstrations. Over 30 scholars from home and abroad watched the demonstrations. Some of them even experienced climbing to heights of 20 meters.

This is the first of this kind of demonstration in China. In order to undertake canopy research better in XTBG, the Garden is consulting with the GCP to host canopy climbing training course in the future.

This activity is supported by the GCP, FCO of Britain and XTBG.
